About DSO&Co

Who are we?

Down Syndrome Opportunities & Connections (DSO&Co) is a not-for-profit organisation creating opportunities for people with Down syndrome to connect, learn, have fun and develop new skills.

We provide online and in-person activities, social opportunities, learning programmes and accessible resources designed to support communication, confidence, independence, relationships and participation in community life.

Why was DSO&Co was created?

DSO&Co grew from my own experiences of seeing how important opportunities, friendships and connections can be for people with Down syndrome.

My brother Tom has Down syndrome, and through growing up alongside him, as well as through my own work supporting people with Down syndrome and their families, I have seen the difference that having the right opportunities can make.

Sometimes it can be difficult to find activities, social opportunities and accessible ways to learn and develop new skills. I wanted to create something that could help make more of these opportunities available.

DSO&Co was created to bring people together, create new opportunities and support people with Down syndrome to build confidence, develop skills, make connections and, most importantly, enjoy themselves along the way.

What we believe

Communication

Supporting people to express themselves, share their ideas and communicate with others.

Independence

Creating opportunities to learn, practise and develop everyday life skills.

Connection

Helping people build friendships, meet others and feel part of their community.

Confidence

Encouraging people to try new things, take on challenges and believe in themselves.

Opportunities

Creating opportunities to take part, have fun, discover new interests and develop new skills.

Raising Awareness

We work with TomFit, a trained fitness coach with Down syndrome, to raise awareness of Down syndrome and promote inclusion in schools. Through inspirational assemblies and interactive fitness sessions, Tom shares his experiences and shows children that Down syndrome should never be a barrier to being active, trying new things or achieving your goals.
